    The Constitutional Court declared unconstitutional the bill on the functioning of languages ​​spoken on Moldova’s territory.

    The Constitutional Court decision:

    “On behalf of Moldova, the Constitutional Court decides:

    The complaints submitted by Mr. Octavian Țîcu, Mr. Dinu Plângău, and Mrs. Maria Ciobanu, deputies in the Parliament of Moldova are admitted. The bill of December 16 on the functioning of languages ​​spoken on the territory of Moldova is declared unconstitutional. The decision is final and cannot be subject to any appeal”, said the president of the Constitutional Court, Domnica Manole.

    The Socialists want special status for the Russian language. The bill was voted by the deputies of the Socialist Party – and Shor Party on December 16, 2020. It provided that employees of state institutions were obliged to discuss, provide information and ensure the translation of notices, certificates, and any type of documents into Russian if citizens came with requests to do so. This bill was drafted by the Socialist Party deputies.
