ZdG Activity Report for 2025
2025 was a year of records at Ziarul de Gardă: the first newsroom in the Republic of Moldova which won a prestigious European award, zdg.md was number 1 among the media portals in the Republic of Moldova, generating the highest traffic in the history of ZdG, with over 5 million users, a record number of articles was published on the site, especially in the electoral campaign (1,000+), and, in a world where people are mainly getting their information from social media, the site attracted mostly direct traffic without dependence on social networks.
All of this happened in a rather hostile context: the halt of American funds which provoked financial instability throughout the year, but also digital and physical attacks on the newsroom and its reporters. According to the Association of Independent Press (API), ZdG was one of the most targeted media outlets, with 12 reported incidents; although, in reality, there were many more, especially online.
Nevertheless, the team kept doing its work, with ambitious plans for 2026 and beyond.
