The first court hearing in the case in which former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, his wife and a family doctor are being investigated for “possession and use of a false medical document” has been scheduled for April 12, 2023.

The criminal case has been assigned for examination to the Chisinau Court of Appeals, Buiucani seat, and the magistrate who will examine the case is Tudor Stambol, according to information published on the court portal.

Tudor Stambol has been working at the Chisinau Court since September 19, 2018. According to magistrat.md, from January 1, 2013 to January 20, 2013, Stambol worked as a lawyer at “Zorista-Lux” Ltd. In 2015, he held the position of clerk of the Riscani Court.

ZdG wrote in 2019 that the magistrate complained that his right to work was violated and that he was left without a salary.

On Tuesday, March 28, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announced that it had filed a criminal case against former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, his wife Galina Dodon, and a family doctor, “who, by mutual consent, made, possessed and used a false medical certificate, with the aim of presenting it to the court and the prosecutor’s office in order to obtain permission to go abroad.”

In the named act, according to the PA, “distorted data were entered, according to which Igor Dodon’s minor child would need consultations with specialist doctors and, if necessary, medical treatment”.

“During the investigations conducted by prosecutors, it was established that the former President of the Republic of Moldova, against whom the preventive measure “order not to leave the country” was applied in a criminal case examined by the Supreme Court of Justice, submitted to the court the false official document and, on the basis of it, requested permission to leave for Romania, under the pretext of carrying out post-COVID treatment for his minor son (…),” the Prosecutor’s Office informed.

At the same time, the PA stated that according to the indictment filed by the prosecutors, the former president, his wife and the family doctor are accused of committing the offence provided for in Article 361 para. (2) letter b) of the Criminal Code, namely: making, possession and use by two or more persons of a false official document granting rights.

According to the provisions of the criminal law, these offences are punishable by a fine ranging from 27 500 to 47 500 lei or unpaid community service of 180 to 240 hours, or imprisonment of up to 5 years, anti-corruption prosecutors also announce.
