Representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) confirm the existence of investigations into the legality of the gas procurement process. Requested by Ziarul de Gardă, Violina Moraru, spokeswoman for the PG, said that the institution refutes the authenticity of the procedural act that was published on social media, referring to a document targeting the secretary general of the presidential institution, Andrei Spînu, published by the leader of the political party “Home We Build Europe” (PACE), Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, investigated in the Petic and Verbițchi files.

“(…) In the investigations, there are no people with procedural status” said Violina Moraru.

On Thursday, 16 February, a few hours before the inauguration of the Recean government, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, president of the political party “Home Building Europe” (PACE), who is under investigation in the Petic and Verbițchi cases, as well as in the “Brilliant Green” case, posted a video on his Facebook account, in which he said that a criminal case had been opened against Andrei Spînu, secretary general of the presidential institution, in connection with the signing in October 2021 of the contract between Moldovagaz SA and the Russian concern Gazprom.

At the same time, Cavcaliuc published an alleged procedural act in which Andrei Spînu is concerned.

Former Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu described Cavcaliuc’s statements targeting him as “lies and rumours”.

“A fugitive, coward and liar from London came out today and is flapping papers. I have a message for him – come home, man, and talk to the prosecution. PS: When we are united, they go mad (…).

(…) We have a government. Those who want to destabilize and steal our country, until the last moment they stayed angry . Some blocked the rostrum, others organized all kinds of paid protests, those in London spread lies and rumors. Folks, we will stick together and finish what we started. The country needs to get rid of thieves for good and the future of our children is in the European Union. Good luck to the new government and let’s move forward with determination! “, said Andrei Spînu in a Facebook post.

In January 2023, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), together with officers from the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), completed the criminal prosecution of Cavcaliuc.

“The case concerns his investigation in the Petic and Verbitschi files, known to the public for investigating the staging of a rape – in the first case and the staging of carrying and keeping ammunition – in the second case,” according to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office.

More specifically, PCCOCS prosecutors charge Gheorghe Cavcaliuc with “abuse of office, as the perpetrator of the crime, as well as the organizer of the following crimes: false denunciation, filing and inducement to file false statements, violation of the inviolability of personal life, carrying and keeping ammunition”.
