    Angela Merkel congratulates Maia Sandu for her appointment as Prime Minister and invites her to Berlin

    By means of a press release issued by the Federal GovernmentGerman Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Maia Sandu for taking on the role of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

    “Madam Prime Minister, 

    Congratulations on your choice. Your personal courage, energy and resistance have contributed to the peaceful settlement of the constitutional crisis. 

    Your country is now facing major political and economic challenges. The Government of Germany will be glad to support you in your aspirations to pursue pro-European, democratic and forward-looking reforms. 

    I would be glad to have the opportunity to host you in the near future in Berlin. I wish you much luck and success in the tasks that await you,” said a press release issued by the Federal Government’s Press and Information Office.

    During the political crisis in the country, Germany together with the United Kingdom, France, Poland and Sweden issued a joint statement expressing their position on the political situation in Chisinau and acknowledging the formation of the parliamentary majority and the election of the Sandu Government.
