After she filed several depositions in the case of the former prime minister Vlad Filat, Olga Roman who was seen in the company of the former prime minister fled the country. Although she is investigated for false depositions in Filat’s case and money laundering the National Anticorruption Center set Roman free almost a month after she was extradited by the authorities in Dubai.

At the beginning of December 2019, Vlad Filat who was serving his nine-year sentence in prison was also released before the term. Filat was detained for passive corruption and influence peddling, following a request filed by fugitive politician Ilan Shor.

Olga Roman came to public attention in 2015, a few months after the former prime minister, Vlad Filat was arrested. Several uncensored photos with the former prime minister and Olga Roman appeared on the internet.

In November the same year, Roman fled Moldova after filing several depositions related to Filat’s case. The authorities announced Roman in international search later and open an investigation in Roman’s name for false depositions in Vlad Filat case and money laundering.

Olga Roman was detained in Dubai in mid-November, this year and extradited to the authorities in Chișinău in December.

When she was extradited to Chișinău authorities, the prosecutors interrogated her, but the representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor General said the woman did not acknowledge her guilt.

“Olga Roman was released because the term of detention expired. At the same time, she is under non-custodial interrogation and has the intention to leave Moldova.”

The information was confirmed for ZdG by the press officer of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Maria Vieru.

Vladimir Filat was sentenced by the Moldovan courts to nine years of imprisonment with execution, being found guilty of passive corruption and influence peddling.

Filat was arrested following a complaint filed by Ilan Shor, he was jailed on October 15, 2015, and has been in prison for four years and one month.

On December 3, Judge Victor Rațoi from Chișinău Court, Ciocana district admitted the request of the administration of the Penitentiary no. 13 and released conditionally, before the term the former prime minister. Filat had yet to serve two more years, 11 months and three days.
