    The United Nations (U.N.) of Moldova awarded the most creative, innovative, efficient, timely and participatory initiatives and actions for the defense and promotion of human rights, on December 6.

    According to a statement issued by the U.N., the 15th edition of the 2019 U.N. Human Rights Awards Gala included six awards with the following winners:

    • Andrei Lefter  – Special award for organizations, youth groups or individuals for the promotion of sexual reproductive rights and health in 2019

    •   Public Association “Positive Initiative”  – General Award for outstanding achievement in the field of human rights in 2019

    • “Baltic University Clinic” from Balti  – Award for outstanding achievement in the field of human rights at local level in 2019

    • Ludmila Adamciuc  – Award for outstanding human rights activism in 2019

    • EcoVisio  – Award for outstanding integration of human rights and equity into the organization’s internal and operational structure in 2019

    • Youth Klinic  – Special prize for groups/organizations of children and young people for outstanding achievements in promoting human rights in 2019

    The U.N. notes that the winners were selected following an open competition. The files of the nominated persons or entities, obtained from the public consultation process, as well as from the analysis of other available materials, were judged by a team of experts and an independent council, made up of representatives of civil society, international organizations and independent experts. Among the criteria used in the evaluation process were creativity, perseverance, devotion and courage demonstrated in the promotion of human rights, as well as the impact of these actions on people’s lives.

    The U.N. Human Rights Awards Gala is organized every year on the eve of the International Human Rights Day, marked on December 10.
