European MEP Siegfried Mureșan became President of the European Parliament Delegation to the European Union-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee on September 26, 2019. After the voting results, Mureșan gave a speech saying that Moldova’s security and safety is important for the European Union’s security.

Siegfried Mureșan is a European Member of the European People’s Party Group and a member of the National Liberal Party of Romania.

After he became President of the European Parliament Delegation to the European Union-Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, he stated that he is committed to strengthening relations between Moldova and the European Union.

“My intention is for all of us together, members of this delegation, to work over the course of the next five years to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union. That is on our fundamental interest because the Republic of Moldova is a neighboring country of the European Union, and only by increasing stability and safety and security in our immediate neighborhood, can we live in safety and security within the borders of the European Union,” Mureșan declared after the members of the delegation voted.

The Romanian MEP said that he would come to Moldova soon and tell citizens about the advantages of being close to the European Union.

Previously, Mureșan proposed that in the European Union’s 2021-2027 budget, half of the funds allocated to Moldova go towards investments in energy and transport connectivity.

This major allocation will help Moldova to reduce its energy dependence on the Russian Federation.

According to Mureșan, between 2014 and 2020, the E.U. allocated 740 million euros in non-reimbursable funds for Moldova, money used to build biomass thermal power stations in schools, to modernize public transport and to rehabilitate public roads.
