Moldova’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, will go on a working visit to Kyiv on September 9. On September 11, he will pay a working visit to Moscow.

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the upcoming visit through a press release on September 6. According to the press release, Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, invited Moldova’s Minister Popescu to meet with officials from the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada in Kyiv.

“The discussions will be concerning the bilateral agenda, cooperation at the regional and international level, European integration and also other topics of common interest,” says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On September 4, Maria Zakharova, the Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced Popescu’s visit to Moscow, as well as his planned meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

According to the Russian state-operated news agency RIA Novosti, Zakharova said during a press briefing that the parties will discuss issues related to cooperation between the two countries and international issues, which are of mutual interest.

Alex Roitman, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration’s spokesperson confirmed this information for ZdG, noting that details on the agenda will be disclosed later.

In an interview on July 30, Prime Minister Sandu told the Russian News Agency TASS that she was planning to accept the invitation of her Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, to visit Moscow in September. At the time, she also said that the Moldovan Foreign Minister, Nicu Popescu, was set to visit Moscow earlier that month, ahead of her trip.
