    01 September 2020 | 09:01

On Tuesday, September 1, the agents of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) and prosecutors carried out searches at several locations in Chișinău, for criminal cases initiated for corruption. The agents detained four people- the chief, his deputy, the accountant, and a foreman from the administration of Sfântul Lazăr Cemetery of the Municipal Enterprise “Funeral Services Plant”.

The National Anticorruption Center representatives claimed that they suspect the detained persons of having demanded from the people, who were going to bury their relatives, extra money to the state tax.

“They are also under criminal investigation for bribery in the case of reservations of burial sites. Officials also demanded huge sums in addition to state taxes,” mentioned Angela Starinschi, National Anticorruption Center spokesperson.

The agents of the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) and prosecutors verified at least 22 addresses in the Capital. According to the NAC representatives, the raids take place in criminal cases initiated on corruption and fraud, targeting employees from the Funeral Services Plant, as well as the administration of Sfântul Lazăr Cemetery in Chișinău.
