Magistrates of the Chisinau Ciocana Court are examining on Saturday, November 5, the seven applications submitted by anti-corruption prosecutors regarding the application of preventive measures against persons detained following the searches carried out on Wednesday at the headquarters of the “Shor” political party.

Representatives of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announced earlier that the hearing is scheduled to start at 11:00.

During the searches conducted on Wednesday, November 2, by anti-corruption prosecutors and officers of the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) at the headquarters of the “Shor” Political Party, in the criminal case on illegal financing of the political party, money in the total amount of 321,700 lei was found and collected.

“The funds were intended for unofficial payment of salaries, paid in envelopes to party employees on behalf of the organized criminal group. We will come back with further details on the criminal prosecution,” the PA announced.

On 20 October, the PA, the CNA and the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) raided members and activists of the “Shor” party in several localities across the country. Veronica Dragalin, chief prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), said at the time that a total of 55 searches were carried out.

The PA chief also said that during the searches 20 black bags with the same emblems” bearing district names were seized. In total, according to Veronica Dragalin, “about 3.5 million lei were collected from these bags”. The amounts collected include lei and dollars. Later, the AP announced that, as a result of the examination, the final amount was found to be 4 219 550 lei and 4 000 dollars.
