President Maia Sandu and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, held a joint press conference on Tuesday, November 22nd. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, is on a working visit to Chișinău.

“The visit marks the progress made in the last few months in the relationship between Moldova and the Council of Europe and takes note of the most important developments in the justice system. The changes that took place in Moldova during this period, allowed us to advance on several topics of common interest. We discussed with the Secretary General the implementation of the assistance projects included in the Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova for the years 2021-2024, which we launched together in April in Strasbourg, following the strategic cooperation previously initiated. This Plan aims to assist us in aligning legislation, institutions, and practice with European standards in the field of human rights, the rule of law, and democracy (…),” said Maia Sandu.

“I am glad to be in Moldova today for my first official visit as Secretary General of the Council of Europe. Madam President, allow me to begin by expressing my gratitude for the fact that you have invited me to come to Moldova (…). As far as you know, the cornerstone of our cooperation is the creation of a Council of Europe Action Plan for Moldova for the period 2021-2024, which we, Madam President, launched together in April. It covers all areas in which the Council of Europe cooperates with Moldova. During today’s meeting, I had the opportunity to appreciate the strong determination of the reform process, in particular the reform of the justice sector and the fight against corruption,” said the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

President Maia Sandu met on Monday, November 22, with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, who is on a working visit to Chișinău.
