The European Union will provide Moldova with a grant of 1.16 million euros to strengthen research and innovation. The Cabinet of Ministers approved on Wednesday, November 3, the signing of the grant contract for the participation of Moldova in the European Union Program “Horizon 2020”.

The contract, worth 1.16 million euros, will be signed in order to consolidate and develop the fields of research and innovation in Moldova.

“Through the grant, the Ministry of Education and Research aims to promote research projects on pressing issues, to develop effective policies to support young researchers, but also to provide adequate financial support for organizing research competitions for young people. At the same time, it will be used for research and innovation competitions in the fields of smart specialization (energy, biopharmaceuticals, agriculture and food processing, ICT), which will help position the country on specific markets or niches internationally, facilitating private investment,” according to an informative note of the Government.

The funding obtained, according to the Government, will ensure the promotion of Moldova’s integration into the European Research Area and will increase the impact of scientific research on the development of the national economy and society as a whole.

The Grant Agreement derives from the Financing Agreement between the Government of Moldova and the European Commission, ratified by Law 152/2019.
