Ex-president Igor Dodon and several Socialist Party deputies visited Moscow. Dodon said there that his defeat in the elections was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, drought in agriculture, and because the West has worked hard for it.

Ex-president Igor Dodon visited Moscow after the inauguration of the new president, Maia Sandu. Dodon said that his categorical defeat in the elections was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, drought in agriculture, and especially because “the West has worked hard.” He made these statements to the state agency, TASS.

The ex-president Igor Dodon said that

“14 thousand NGOs worked hard for Maia Sandu in the presidential campaign. Of course, there was also an unprecedented mobilization of Moldovan citizens who are temporarily or permanently in EU countries. That was done using administrative resources. It is clear that without the administrative resource this would not be possible. I believe that all these factors have given the result we have.”

Igor Dodon says that the US has taken care of this in particular, and the West, in his opinion, will demand a reward for it.

“I think the West will demand the check from the new president. What this will consist of, we’ll see. But the payment must be made. It seems to me that this is very dangerous for Moldova. Because the position of the West, especially the US will be to create a new conflict, to provoke Russia. We see the first statements about Transnistria, against the Russian peacekeepers. In early December, the new President’s first visit will be to Kyiv. If there is a common position to block Transnistria, I think this will be the check that will be paid by the new president of Moldova,” Dodon added.

At the same time, the former president says that all these initiatives will be blocked by his Socialist Party because Maia Sandu does not control the Government and does not have a parliamentary majority.

“Fortunately, it went well for us that the new president does not have his government or a parliamentary majority. And to go to destabilization, even if they really want to, they will not be able to because we have the possibility to block it”, said Igor Dodon.

Dodon says that the early parliamentary elections could take place on Victory Day, the 9th of May.
