Moldova’s Head of State Disturbed by the Fact That the United States Does Not Extradite Vladimir Plahotniuc

Mr. Dodon stated in an interview for Free Europe Radio that the former leader of Moldova’s Democratic Party must be brought to Moldova soon, although it depends on our esteemed American strategic partners.

Asked if all the documents for extradition are arranged, Dodon said that “Strategic partners do not work with pieces of paper. Strategic partners solve it differently, as in a strategic partnership. I value our strategic partners.”

The head of state says that the delay in extradition is due to certain geopolitical interests “taking into account the political struggle in Moldova.”

“I have told you I have all the respect for all our partners and I very much hope that they will act with interest for our bilateral relations, regardless of our political situation; the internal political struggle, the upcoming presidential elections. As many people do not understand, they ask me why the Americans keep Plahotniuc there. I tell them, ask them Americans, ask Maia Sandu (former Priminster, who fought against Plahotniuc in 2019), they need him more,” said Igor Dodon.

The head of state claimed that in the case of Plahotniuc’s extradition, the “US$1 billion Moldovan fraud” investigation would move faster.
