On behalf of the United States Government, U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, sent a congratulatory message to the citizens of Moldova on the occasion of Independence Day.

The official mentioned that this autumn’s presidential election will represent an important stage in Moldova’s independence and democratic development.

“Since 1991, the United States has been a dedicated partner of Moldova as it continues on the path to economic prosperity, good governance, and European integration. The United States remains committed to Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue to play an active role in the negotiations for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. We are also proud of our collaboration in the fight against COVID-19.

This fall’s presidential election will be an important step in Moldova’s independence and democratic development. We look forward to free and fair elections that fully respect the will of the Moldovan people and respect international standards.

I wish you prosperity and success in the years to come,” said the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his message.

On August 27, 1991, Moldova became independent. Thus, today our country marks 29 years since the declaration of Independence.
