The ruling party’s candidate for Chisinau mayor, Lilian Carp, came out on Monday, November 6, with a public message after losing the election to former socialist Ion Ceban in the first round with 28.23% of the votes cast by the capital’s residents.

Carp said he “respects this vote” and gave assurances that “this act of confidence is the beginning of a constructive public agenda for Chisinau and the whole country”.

These local elections have shown how united we can be when we have clear goals and objectives. Every meeting, every discussion, every leaflet or newspaper shared brought us closer to the people and their problems.

The programme we have taken on will be the guide for the actions of the PAS team in the Chisinau Municipal Council. The same will happen with the problems raised by citizens at the meetings, for which PAS councillors will find solutions.

As I said, it is the citizens who decide the fate of their towns and villages in local elections. The residents of Chisinau municipality have given their vote – and I respect this vote.

I want to thank the 74 074 people who voted for me and the 84 614 citizens who voted for the PAS team of councillors.

I am grateful and I assure you that this act of trust is the beginning of a constructive public agenda for Chisinau and for the whole country.

In the regions of the capital, of the votes taken by the candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), the most were in the Centre sector – 30.56%, followed by Ciocana 30.01%, 29.26% in Buiucani, 26.89% in Riscani and 22.99% in Botanica. Only in Băcioi commune, Carp got slightly more votes than Ceban – 41.99%.

Of the 11 municipalities in Moldova, 7 mayors were elected in the first round, notes economic expert Veaceslav Ionita. Candidates of the ruling party, PAS, were not elected in any of the country’s municipalities, according to preliminary data presented by the Central Electoral Council (CEC).

Representatives of the ruling party have come up with their first reaction after the publication of the preliminary results of the general local elections on Sunday 5 November. Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spînu says the “most important conclusion” of these elections is that “the pro-European message won hands down across the country”.

The official does not mention the fact that the PAS candidate for mayor of the capital, Lilian Carp, will not have the opportunity for a second round of elections, having collected 28.23% after processing all the minutes.

“A few conclusions, hot off the press, about the Action and Solidarity Party :

PAS won the elections in the country – in 19 districts we are in first place;

We got a good score for the Chisinau Municipal Council. We will have a strong faction, 20 municipal councillors, which will fight for a European city;

More than 240 mayors in the first round all over the country. The highest number of mayors after the first round”, wrote PAS vice-president Andrei Spînu on social media.

In the morning of Monday, November 6, all the minutes were processed in the Chisinau constituencies. Thus, the former socialist Ion Ceban won his second mandate as mayor of Chisinau, obtaining 50.62%, i.e. 132 802 votes.
