    The mayor of Nisporeni, Grigorii Robu, was detained on Tuesday, September 19, in a case of abuse of office and false statements. The information was confirmed to Ziarul de Gardă by Violina Moraru, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG).

    According to the representative of the Prosecutor’s Office, two other officials from the Nisporeni City Hall have been detained in this case.

    “We confirm the detention of the named person in a criminal case brought on reasonable suspicion of committing the crimes of abuse of office and false statements, as well as two other officials from the Nisporeni City Hall. The fourth person was admitted and heard as a suspect and is being investigated in custody.

    Similarly, by the criminal prosecution group, under the leadership of the Nisporeni District Prosecutor’s Office, searches were carried out at the homes, offices and cars of the persons concerned,” Violina Moraru told ZdG.

    In the 2019 local elections, Grigorii Robu ran for mayor of Nisporeni on behalf of the Democratic Party of the Republic of Moldova (PDM), which has since been renamed the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE). He then won his second mandate.

    According to his last declaration of assets and personal interests, the mayor raised in 2022 salary income of 186 864 lei. Also last year, the official earned 72 670 lei from the sale of grapes. Grigorii Robu owns two agricultural lands, an apartment worth 549 633 lei. The Robu family also owns a Renault Captur car worth 100 000 lei.
