    Officers of the Department for Combating Organised Crime of the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI) and criminal prosecution officers of the Ciocana IP, under the direction of the Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office, Ciocana office, detained for 72 hours two people suspected of drug dealing.

    On Wednesday, August 30, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the suspects’ homes.

    As a result of special investigative measures, police officers found more than 200 grams of marijuana, several zip-lock bags of synthetic drugs, 2400 euros and 3000 dollars, money allegedly obtained from criminal activity. At the same time, during the investigation, law enforcement officers found ten hydroponic hemp plants in a forest strip near Chisinau, which were tended by the two suspects,” a police statement said.

    A criminal case for illegal circulation of drugs, ethnobotanicals or their analogues for the purpose of alienation was opened in February.

    “As a result of the investigations, it was established that a 30-year-old man, an employee of a medical institution in Chisinau, together with his 24-year-old concubine, created a scheme to sell drugs via the Internet. The drugs were prepared in specially prepared conditions (greenhouse) at their home in the small town of Durlești, and then placed by them in hiding places from where they were picked up by customers. In May, the man was arrested and a 30-day arrest warrant was issued for him.

    At the end of the preventive measure, the man, together with his concubine, resumed his criminal activity of preparing and selling drugs. Thus, on 30 August, following investigative measures, the two were caught red-handed while placing drugs in hiding (…).

    The value of the narcotics seized on the black market exceeds 100 000 lei. The two suspected drug dealers were detained for 72 hours, according to police.

    According to the criminal legislation, for the crime committed, the guilty persons risk imprisonment for a term of 7 to 15 years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or exercise a certain activity for a term of 2 to 5 years.
