On August 6, the Ministry of Finance has launched an online platform through which anyone can see the data on the state budget. The budget portal.mf.gov.md is a tool through which the Executive aims to ensure budget transparency.

“This portal will allow us to visualize budget implementation data and it is intended for both citizens and more advanced users, who want to use more sophisticated data research tools,” said the State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Tatiana Ivanicichina.

The development of the portal was possible with the financial support of the USA. The US Ambassador to Chișinău, Dereck J. Hogan, present at the launch event said that this is how transparency of public money is ensured.

“The elaboration of this portal is the tangible evidence of the Moldovan Governmnet commitment to transparency and responsibility of the governing act. Starting with today, all Moldovan citizens will have access to key information about the national budget, but also the local budget and not only this one. Transparency is more than just publishing information. Transparency means providing information in an accessible and easy to understand way, and the portal ensures this, taxpayers can see how their money is spent, ” said the diplomat.

According to the Minister of Finance, Natalia Gavriliță, the purpose of launching this portal is to initiate the economic reform of the Republic of Moldova.

“We intend to strengthen the role of financial inspection and improve the public procurement process,”said the minister.

The portal was created as part of the Budget Transparency Program in the Republic of Moldova implemented by the Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The data from the portal are automatically downloaded from the Ministry of Finance.
