The action, which the National Anti-Corruption Centre (NAC) carried out in the evening of Tuesday, May 16, jointly with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) and the National Investigation Inspectorate (INI) in Comrat, took place in the framework of the criminal case initiated on the facts of illegal financing of the Shor party and bribery of voters, the NAC said in a press release.

On Wednesday, May 17, the prosecution officer, under the direction of the prosecutor in the case, asked the representative of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of UTA Gagauzia to report to the NAC headquarters for the unsealing procedure of the boxes with the electoral lists, which were collected on Tuesday.

“It is a procedural action to be conducted in the presence of the CEC representative’s lawyer and is being filmed, with the recording attached to the file.

The CEC representative and his lawyer have been contacted for today, but we have been informed that they are available to attend the court action on Friday, 19 May,” the source said.

After unsealing the boxes with the electoral lists, the prosecution officer is to make copies of the lists and ensure their transmission to the Comrat Court.

“We have previously reported on the searches carried out in this case on several representatives of an electoral contestant in the elections for the position of Bashkan of ATU Gagauzia and provided information on the suspicions that have emerged in this case – suspicions resulting from the investigation and prosecution activities carried out by the police, the NAC and the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office, in particular multiple cases of voter corruption. We have obtained evidence relevant to the case which is currently being examined.

In the framework of special investigative measures, a reasonable suspicion has emerged that there are persons on the electoral lists who, at the time of the elections, were outside our country and therefore unable to physically participate in the elections, as well as deceased persons,” the NAC notes.

According to the NAC, in order to verify this information, it was necessary to collect the electoral rolls.
