    Man accused of stealing almost half a million lei, which would have been used to finance the Shor party, from two young women, brought to justice

    The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announces on Thursday, April 6, the completion of the criminal prosecution and referral to court for examination on the merits, of the criminal case against a young man, charging him with the crime of robbery and hooliganism, after leaving two young women without almost half a million lei.

    During the criminal proceedings, it was established that the stolen funds were intended to finance protests organised by the Shor party in front of various public institutions in Chisinau. According to the AP, this money was collected and recognized as a crime in the case of illegal financing of the political party.

    The criminal case was initiated in December 2022, by the Riscani Police Inspectorate of the Chisinau Police Department. Chisinau on the basis of complaints of two young women, subsequently withdrawn by the Prosecutor General and forwarded for prosecution by the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA).

    According to the materials, the accused, using non-perilous violence against the victims, openly stole a package containing money in the amount of about 487 thousand lei. Subsequently, violating public order and “with hooligan intentions”, the accused allegedly initiated a conflict with a citizen who tried to intervene in defence of the victims, as a result of which he struck him with a metal crowbar, causing him, according to the forensic report, slight injuries.

    The defendant is currently under house arrest and the criminal case has been sent to the Buiucani court for examination of the merits.

    The law provides for a penalty of 8 to 12 years’ imprisonment for robbery and 3 to 7 years’ imprisonment for hooliganism.

    Earlier, police reported that on 20 December, on Kiev Street in the Rascani sector of the capital, a man stole from two women a bag containing money, wallets with identity documents and two gold rings, by applying several blows with his fists and a metal crowbar on the surface of the body. The amount of damage was estimated at the time at 914 000 lei.
