President Maia Sandu met with Antony J. Blinken, US Secretary of State, at the Munich Security Conference. Discussions between the two focused on several important topics including security challenges, reports a press release from the presidency.

“We talked about the security challenges we and the entire region are facing, as well as the efforts made by the authorities in Chisinau to strengthen the rule of law, modernize the economy and ensure the security of our citizens,” said President Maia Sandu.

“We are deeply concerned about some of the plans we have seen coming from Russia to try to destabilize the government,” Blinken said during the meeting, as quoted by Reuters, reports Agerpres.

The head of state also thanked the United States for the comprehensive assistance Moldova receives, the statement added.

“We are grateful to the American people for their consistent contribution to the development of democracy, public institutions and for the support they have given us in these complicated times to become more resilient economically and energetically, but also more efficient in the field of security,” President Maia Sandu said.

During the Munich Security Conference, Maia Sandu also met Gitanas Nausėda, President of Lithuania.
