Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office: The latest figures in the Rezina disability certificate criminal case have reached the magistrates’ table
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) announces on Thursday, February 9, that it has sent to court the last figures of the criminal case on Rezina disability certificates, including the organizer accused of 19 episodes, a doctor and two applicants accused of committing influence peddling.
On February 14, 2020, the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) started criminal prosecution based on a citizen’s complaint about illegal actions, committed by employees of the Territorial Structure for Determination of Disability and Work Capacity Rezina of the National Council for Determination of Disability and Work Capacity, manifested by claiming money means in the amount of 4000 – 6000 lei, claiming to have influence on public persons, with a view to determining them to issue decision on granting the degree of disability, according to the PA.
“In the framework of criminal prosecution and special investigative measures it was established that the social relations specialist of the Territorial Structure for Determination of Disability and Work Capacity Rezina, acting in concert according to the prior agreement with the nurse, claiming to have influence over public persons members of the Service for Determination of the Degree of Disability of the National Council for Determination of Disability and Work Capacity, to induce them to grant the requested degree of disability, demanded from several persons interested in granting the degree of disability, money that they were not entitled to, ranging from 4000 to 18 500 lei, in the absence of compliance with the criteria laid down by the law on the determination of disability,” PA representatives said in a statement.
Twenty episodes of claiming and accepting money were documented. The defendants admit their guilt, and the criminal case has been referred to the court and will be examined by the Orhei Court, Rezina headquarters. According to the PA, the maximum penalty for offences under Article 326(2) of the Criminal Code is a fine of 150,000 to 200,000 lei or imprisonment for 2 to 6 years.
The PA announces that it has previously sent to court other criminal cases against other persons documented in the same file, who requested examination under the simplified procedure of admission of guilt, and convictions were obtained against 28 defendants, including four doctors, nurses and members of medical teams, with confiscation of illegally obtained funds.
In this criminal case, the Ministry of Health has been informed about the annulment of the documents for obtaining the illegally obtained disability degrees, the institution’s representatives added.
