A young man from Chisinau was detained on Tuesday, February 7, by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Centre (CNA) and anti-corruption prosecutors in a case of influence peddling. The suspect allegedly demanded €4,000 from a friend, who was under investigation for robbery, claiming that he had influence over the prosecutor and could convince him to close the case.

Following the prosecution, the suspect was detained and placed in CNA isolation for 72 hours.

The CNA announces that it has opened a criminal case for influence peddling. Subsequently, under the control of the Centre’s officers, the money was transferred to the suspect, and today, 7 February, during the searches, part of the amount delivered was found. Banknotes amounting to €750 and $600 were seized, as well as mobile phones.

According to the CNA, the series and numbers of the euro banknotes correspond to the cash handed over to the suspect under the control of CNA officers.

Any person is presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is rendered.
