    Four men from Ialoveni district have been detained and placed in the Hîncești Police Inspectorate’s isolator for illegal hunting. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), the men hunted two deer and one roe deer between 2-3 January 2023. The suspects face a maximum penalty of up to three years in prison.

    According to preliminary data, on January 3, 2023, at 10:46 a.m., the Guard Service of the Ialoveni Police Inspectorate received a telephone call from an employee of the State Ecological Service of the Ialoveni District Council, who reported that the bodies of three young deer had been found in a village in the Ialoveni district.

    As a result of criminal prosecution actions carried out, according to law enforcement officers, it was established that during the period of time 2 – 3 January 2023, four inhabitants of a village in Ialoveni district, of different ages, practiced illegal hunting, namely poaching, as a result of the given activity two deer and one roe deer were hunted.

    According to the PG, on the basis of the circumstances established, criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 233 (1) of the Criminal Code (Illegal hunting).

    “Having searched the suspects’ homes, three legally owned hunting weapons, several cartridge-like objects, knives, axes and other dirty objects of reddish-brown blood-like substance, as well as some component parts of wild animals were seized. The car in which the alleged crime was committed was also seized,” the PG announced.

    As a result of what was established, all suspects were detained and placed in the isolator of the Hincesti Police Inspectorate. The prosecution body is still conducting the necessary investigations to clarify the circumstances of the case.

    The suspects face a maximum penalty of up to 3 years in prison, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) representatives added.
