President Maia Sandu met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission. Maia Sandu thanked for the constant support provided by the EU to Moldova in recent years and discussed the priorities for future bilateral cooperation.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the two officials discussed the reopening of political dialogue and the initiation of close cooperation with the country’s European partners, ensuring faster access to anti-Covid-19 vaccines for Moldovan citizens, especially for those from risk groups, as well as the way Moldova can move forward as effectively as possible on European agenda.

“I reiterated that Moldova wants to intensify cooperation with the EU in the field of foreign policy and I addressed, in this context, more active ways of cooperation on the national and regional security agenda. At the same time, I stressed that corruption is the biggest threat to the state and national interest. Judicial reform is the only way to help the long-term well-being and security of citizens,” says President Maia Sandu.

Josep Borrell assured President Maia Sandu of all his support for Moldova and for its citizens.

For his part, Sandu invited Borrell to pay an official visit to Chișinău.
