    FINAL PRELIMINARY RESULTS. Former socialist Ion Ceban won a new mandate as mayor of Chisinau municipality

    UPDATE 09:20 All the minutes of the Chisinau constituencies have been processed. Thus, former socialist Ion Ceban won his second mandate as mayor of Chisinau municipality, obtaining 50.62%, i.e. 132 802 votes.

    His opponent, Lilian Carp, obtained 28.23%, i.e. 74 074 votes.

    Ion Ceban wins his second term as mayor of Chisinau municipality after processing 303 out of 305 minutes, according to preliminary data published by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

    Thus, the MAN candidate for mayor of the capital won the elections in the first round.

    General local elections were held in Moldova on Sunday, 5 November 2023. Citizens elected 898 mayors and 11 058 councillors in the first and second level local councils. For the 898 mayoral seats, 3 297 people registered in the electoral race, and for the 11 058 councillor seats – 45 775 people.

    Two days before the elections, the Commission for Exceptional Situations (CSE) decided to cancel the registration of the candidates of the Șansă party, affiliated to oligarch Ilan Șor. Thus, a stamp was affixed to the right of all the electoral candidates of the Chance party with the word RETRO.
