The director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), Alexandru Musteața, signed on Thursday, 19 January, an order providing for the blocking of access from the territory of Moldova of two sources with online content, “promoting information inciting hatred and war, under the state of emergency”. Access to the eadaily.com and bloknot.ru portals is to be suspended.

“The order containing binding instructions has been sent to the National Registrar of the top-level domain “md” and to providers of electronic communications networks and/or services, in order to block, under the conditions of the law, immediate access by users in Moldova to the above-mentioned sources,” an SIS statement said.

Last time, SIS issued another order on 24 October to block online portals moldnod.ru and rusnod.ru.

In total, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, SIS has asked network providers and/or electronic communication services to block more than 10 websites writing and distributing false and hateful information.

Most of the websites blocked by SIS manage to circumvent the bans imposed by the authorities: while some operate unhindered, others have created accounts on social networks or Telegram channels, thus continuing their activity.
