The statement signed by the majority of prosecutors in June 2019 “contains no political posturing and makes no mention of endorsement of any person or political opinion.” This is what Acting Prosecutor General (PG) Dumitru Robu says in a comment to ZdG about the accusations made by former capital mayor Dorin Chirtoaca who published the statement signed by state prosecutors and accused that the signatories, including the acting head of the PG, signed for “supporting the Plahotniuc regime”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked by ZdG, Robu said that the statement itself does not contain any mention that would indicate the support shown by the prosecutors for any political party or specific person. Dumitru Robu also states that “the Prosecutor’s Office remains an apolitical institution, independent from other state powers, working in the interest of citizens and the state”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With regard to the accusations made in relation to the signing by prosecutors of the statement of June 2019, we mention that this document does not contain political postulates, does not mention the support of any person or political opinion. In accordance with the state assigned by law, the prosecutors have not supported and currently do not support any exponent of politics, and the statement itself, does not contain any mention that would indicate on the support expressed by the prosecutors in relation to any political party or specific person. In this context, we would like to assure the public opinion that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova remains an apolitical institution, independent from other powers in the state, working in the interest of citizens and the state, in order to respect human rights, where prosecutors act in the public interest and in strict accordance with the law, without allowing interference in its work. At the same time, we reiterate that the Prosecutor’s Office will cooperate with other authorities in accordance with the law in order to carry out its functions of contributing to the administration of justice”, the Acting Prosecutor General informed us.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The former mayor of the capital, Dorin Chirtoaca, published on Tuesday the statement signed in June 2019 by 612 prosecutors, including Dumitru Robu, accusing that then prosecutors signed for “supporting the Plahotniuc regime”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ziarul de Gard\u0103 published the document in June 2019, noting that the majority of prosecutors in Moldova, members of the Association of Prosecutors, signed a public statement on 14 June 2019 addressed to European institutions in which they complained about “insistent attempts by some politicians to change the legislation on the prosecutor’s office in a fast-track manner, so that the institution is politically controlled”. The message then came after on 8 June 2019 the parliamentary majority formed by PSRM and ACUM Bloc, but unrecognised by PDM and most state institutions, voted several amendments to the law on the prosecutor’s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
