Mariana Alexandru, former prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate in Romania, was appointed a member of the Moldovan Superior Council of Prosecutors in the Commission that will evaluate the performance of the suspended prosecutor-general Alexandr Stoianoglo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariana Alexandru was also the advisor to the Chief Prosecutor of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism. In 2015, Mariana Alexandru was selected by the European Union Delegation following several steps of the National Anticorruption Center, to diplomatic missions, to provide assistance in the field of investigation of economic and financial crimes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 4, President Maia Sandu announced that she had sent a notification to the Superior Council of Prosecutors requesting the initiation of the procedure for evaluating the performance of the suspended General Prosecutor, Alexandr Stoianoglo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to initiate the evaluation procedure is determined by the need to strengthen society’s trust in the Prosecutor’s Office, trust compromised by the lack of results in fighting crime and corruption, especially in resonance cases, during the period when it was led by the suspended prosecutor general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main amendment approved to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office refers to the introduction of a mechanism for evaluating the activity of the Prosecutor General, with the possibility of his dismissal, at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The performances of the General Prosecutor are to be evaluated by a special commission, which will be set up at the notification of the country’s president or at least 3 members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, and if after the evaluation the head of the General Prosecutor’s Office obtains the grade “failed”, the Superior Council of Prosecutors will propose to the president of the country the dismissal of the Prosecutor General.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

On October 5, around 21:00, after three hours of searches, the suspended general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo was escorted by the Information and Security Service officers from the General Prosecutor’s Office building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to anti-corruption prosecutor Victor Furtun\u0103, Stoianoglo is investigated for abuse of office, passive corruption, false statements, and exceeding official duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
