After the Constitutional Court declared Sandu\u2019s decree unconstitutional, she held a press conference stating her position. Deputies from different factions reacted to the president\u2019s position supporting or condemning her. <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Following the Constitutional Court\u2019s decision to declared unconstitutional the decree to appoint Natalia Gavrili\u021ba for the Prime Minister position, president Maia Sandu held a press conference in which she stated that the only way to overcome the current situation is through early elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I will not wait to see how the criminal brotherhood does not want to lose their power over the country and signs alliances as easily as they filled their own pockets. I am not a prisoner of my position, I will not be a comfortable president as they want. I will speak for people and be with them. I ask the deputies who are not caught in the nets of the mafia clans for a little courage and understanding. The courage to go to early elections and the understanding that nothing good can come out of the current parliamentary structure. We do not have the right to allow the recapture of state institutions. The people are the real holders of power in the state and it is they who can get over this situation. In early elections or in a referendum, people will decide their future and the future of the country,” said president Maia Sandu.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    The Socialist Party\u2019s deputy Vasile Bolea says he is puzzled by the president\u2019s reaction to the Constitutional Court\u2019s decision and accuses her of beginning a fight with the Parliament, even though all the previous attempts show that the Parliament emerges victorious from such fights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “The president is on the barricade again. I would recommend her to take a break before the speeches and think carefully about what she wants to say. Instead of analyzing the decision of the Constitutional Court, the head of state throws gas on the fire and initiates a new political war. Ever since the 1990s, when the head of state began to confront the Parliament, the Parliament has always won in this war,\u201d says Bolea. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    The Democratic Party deputy Dumitru Diacov claims that the president must find a middle way, respect the Constitutional Court\u2019s decision, and call the parliamentary factions to consultations for identifying a candidate for prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “The president must bring peace and cooperation. There must be no such war between the presidential institution, the Parliament, and more recently, the Constitutional Court. She must call the factions for consultations. I think there are 80 deputies whom she can talk to. I do not want a conflict. It will be for the first time when a president does not submit to the Constitutional Court\u2019s decision,” said the Democratic Party deputy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    On the other hand, the Action and Solidarity Party deputy Mihai Pop\u0219oi declares himself proud of the decision made by the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “For a long time, I did not feel such pride in the decision of a president. There is a big difference between the current president and Igor Dodon, who feared Plahotniuc. Now the election in the country is between a group of deputies who stick to their mandate and are afraid of early elections and the people that want to choose their future,” says Mihai Pop\u0219oi.
