{"id":5856,"date":"2020-12-15T17:02:05","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T15:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zdg.md\/en\/?p=5856"},"modified":"2020-12-15T17:02:05","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T15:02:05","slug":"undp-reports-on-human-development-moldova-registering-a-higher-score-compared-to-last-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zdg.md\/en\/undp-reports-on-human-development-moldova-registering-a-higher-score-compared-to-last-year\/","title":{"rendered":"UNDP Reports on Human Development, Moldova Registering a Higher Score Compared to Last Year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-advanced-gutenberg-blocks-intro\"><p class=\"wp-block-advanced-gutenberg-blocks-intro__content\">Moldova is among three countries in the world demonstrating that lighter pressure on the planet is possible, according to UNDP\u2019s Human Development Report<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chisinau, 15 December 2020 \u2013 <\/strong>Republic of Moldova<strong> <\/strong>ranks 90 out of 189 countries and territories as per the Human Development Index (HDI) for 2019, which measures national progress in health, education and income and is annually published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in its Human Development Reports. Moldova\u2019s HDI value for 2019 is 0.750, which puts the country in the high human development category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 30th anniversary edition of the Human Development Report, The Next Frontier: Human Development and the Anthropocene, introduces an experimental new lens to its annual HDI. The report argues that as people and planet enter an entirely new geological epoch, the Anthropocene or the Age of Humans, it is time to for all countries to redesign their paths to progress by fully accounting for the dangerous pressures humans put on the planet, and dismantle the gross imbalances of power and opportunity that prevent change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By adjusting the HDI, which measures a nation\u2019s health, education, and standards of living, to include two more elements: a country\u2019s carbon dioxide emissions and its material footprint, the index shows how the global development landscape would change if both the wellbeing of people and also the planet were central to defining humanity\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the resulting Planetary-Pressures Adjusted HDI \u2013 or PHDI &#8211; a new global picture emerges, painting a less rosy but clearer assessment of human progress. For example, more than 50 countries drop out of the very high human development group, reflecting their dependence on fossil fuels and material footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite these adjustments, three countries in the world, Costa Rica, Moldova, and Panama move upwards by at least 30 places, recognizing that lighter pressure on the planet is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dMoldova is boldly leading the way with its climate ambition, being the fourth country in the world to present its updated National Determined Contribution to the Paris Agreement, with the ambition to gradually reach climate neutrality by 2030,\u201d noted Dima Al-Khatib, UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next frontier for human development will require working with and not against nature, while transforming social norms, values, and government and financial incentives, the report argues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 1990 and 2019, Moldova\u2019s HDI value increased with 8.7%, from 0.690 to 0.750. Moldova\u2019s 2019 HDI of 0.750 is below the average of 0.753 for countries in the high human development group and below the average of 0.791 for countries in Europe and Central Asia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moldova has the highest Gender Development Index in the region of Europe and Central Asia, 1.014. This index measures gender inequalities in achievement in three basic dimensions of human development: health (measured by female and male life expectancy at birth), education (measured by female and male expected years of schooling for children and mean years for adults aged 25 years and older) and command over economic resources (measured by female and male estimated GNI per capita).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, Moldova lost 10.4% of human development progress due to persisting inequalities. The breadth (intensity) of deprivation in Moldova is 37.4%, which is the average deprivation score of people experiencing multidimensional poverty. Income poverty only tells part of the story. In Moldova (Republic of), 0.9% of the population (38,000 people) are multidimensionally poor while an additional 3.7% are classified as vulnerable to multidimensional poverty (150,000 people).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most recent survey data that were publicly available for Moldova\u2019s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) estimation refer to 2012.
