In the United States, newspapers from the left to the right side of the political spectrum, such as the New York Times<\/a>, the Washington Post,<\/a> Fox News<\/a>, appear to concur on noting that a new government is fighting the former oligarchic regime to assume its vested power. The newspapers highlight that in an area previously described by tensions between Russia and the West, the political events in Moldova are \u201ca rare point of unity between Moscow, Washington and Brussels.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Plahotniuc has become so divisive a figure that he has managed to unite parties as different as the Socialists and the Now Platform, which have radically opposing attitudes to European integration. The Socialists want to retain Moldova\u2019s historic ties to Russia, while the Now Platform believes the country, once part of Romania, has a future within the European Union,\u201d writes the New York Times.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
