The land of the former Republican stadium was returned to state ownership after a decade of negotiation to give it to the U.S. for the construction of a new Embassy Complex. A press release of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova shows that the bill violates international law and negatively affects the relations between the U.S. and Moldova.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;The United States regrets and criticizes the adoption of the legislation that repeals the sale of the land of the former Republican Stadium to the United States for the construction of a new Embassy Complex. The United States has been negotiating in good faith with successive governments of Moldova for over a decade the acquisition of land. This violates a binding bilateral agreement, it violates international law, and adversely affects the relations between the United States and Moldova. The United States is ready to invest more than 250 million dollars to build a new embassy in Chi\u0219in\u0103u, creating hundreds of jobs, supporting local businesses, and revitalizing Chi\u0219in\u0103u&#8217;s economy. As I have constantly said, any new construction on this land will respect its cultural and historical significance. We urge the authorities to rethink this and to honor their obligations&#8221;, the communiqu\u00e9 reads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputies of the Socialist Party and those of the Shor Party approved a draft law that allows the construction, on the place where the Republican Stadium was, of cultural and sports buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The deputies motivate the repeal by the fact that \u201cwhen the law was approved, several aspects were not taken into account, among them the lack of the general urban plan.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The former communist and democratic deputy, Sergiu S\u00eerbu, came up with an amendment stipulating that&#8221; this land remains in the state&#8217;s ownership and only sports-cultural edifices will be built here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the bill\u2019s approval, Ilan Shor came up with a message in which he says that &#8220;today we achieved an important victory&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;The land of the Republican Stadium returned to state ownership. An important amendment was introduced, namely, that only sports-cultural edifices can be built there.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He mentioned that this is the first step in realizing his construction ideas: MoldovaLand and BasarabiaLand stadium, a large sport, educational, and leisure center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Republican Stadium was built in 1952. It was closed in 2006 and demolished on the indication of the former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev in 2007, with the promise to build another arena in the same place.
