The National Inspectorate of Investigations employees counted presidential candidate Igor Dodon\u2019s thousand campaign newspapers printed at the “Universul” printing house.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The police officers have found a cargo van with up to 90 packages of 800 newspapers each. Thus, 72,000 newspapers exceed the number of 55,000 ones declared by the candidate\u2019s electoral staff. Another van has contained 160 packages of 800 newspapers each. In total, 128,000 newspapers have been found in both vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 11, several cargo vans, full of printed newspapers of the independent candidate Igor Dodon, supported by the Socialists\u2019 Party (PSRM), were seen near the “Universul” Publishing House. This is a state printing house, although the socialists reported a private one in the newspapers. According to the president of the “UNIREA-ODIP” Association, Vlad Biletchi, several vans, filled up with campaigning newspapers, went to all settlements in Moldova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidate Igor Dodon’s team was caught printing electoral newspapers at the “Universul” State Publishing House. These services are not reflected in the financial statements submitted to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). The Action and Solidarity Party deputy, Sergiu Litvinenco, named it \u201ca defiant use of administrative resources (state resources) in favor of Igor Dodon. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there any sanctions for such breaches?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) Failure to declare campaign costs to the Central Electoral Commission entails “cancellation of registration,” which means excluding the candidate from the electoral race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) Use of state administrative resources, according to art.181 (2) of the Criminal Code, is sanctioned by imposing a fine of 550 to 850 conventional units or imprisonment for up to three years, in both cases with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or to exercise certain activities for a term of up to five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We recall that on Thursday, November 12, the leader of Our Party, Renato Usatii, submitted to the Central Electoral Commission a request regarding the exclusion of Igor Dodon from the presidential elections. Renato Usatii accuses Igor Dodon of printing over 2 million newspapers. These services\u2019 costs were not included in the financial reports submitted to the Central Electoral Commission CEC, which is a violation of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, Olesia Stamate, the representative of electoral candidate Maia Sandu, who has an advisory vote in the Central Electoral Commission, asked the Commission to impose sanctions on Socialist Party candidate Igor Dodon for not announcing the costs of publishing electoral newspapers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
