On Monday, September 7, the former director stated in a live show on TVR Moldova that Moldovan doctors from intensive care worked real miracles. However, statistics show that patients had comorbidities in 99 percent of deaths, such as heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“I do not want to be judging or cynical, but all over the world, COVID-19 took people\u2019s lives who were a burden for themselves and those close to them. People who were struggling in terminal stages of cancer, advanced diabetes, cardiovascular pathologies. It happens in France, Italy, and also in Moldova,” said Nicolae Furtun\u0103. Moldova\u2019s chief epidemiologist said that the situation is valid for every country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director\u2019s comments became a topic of discussion on social media platforms and in the media outlets. Several political leaders and former officials asked for Nicolae Furtun\u0103\u2019s resignation due to the COVID-19 related statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the media\u2019s provoked situation, Nicolae Furtun\u0103 apologized for his statements, mentioning that he used the word “burden” as a medical term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the chief epidemiologist\u2019s explanation, President Igor Dodon came up with a message stating that the apology was not enough, asking the Government to dismiss Nicolae Furtun\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, Prime Minister Ion Chicu summoned a meeting with Nicolae Furtun\u0103, asking for his demission. Ion Chicu appreciated the professionalism of Nicolae Furtun\u0103 and thanked him for his work and effort during this challenging period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premier announced that Vasile Gu\u0219tiuc would be the new interim director of the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
