Members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) have agreed to the appointment of Sergiu Brigai as deputy to the interim Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu. The decision was taken at a meeting on Monday 4 March.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergiu Brigai is the third candidate to be accepted by the Superior Council of Magistracy for the position of judge after passing the external evaluation of ethical and financial integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Having examined the application of Mr Ion Munteanu, acting Prosecutor General, for written consent to the nomination of Mr Sergiu Brigai for appointment as Deputy Acting Prosecutor General, the Superior Council of Prosecutors has decided: to give its consent to the appointment of Mr Sergiu Brigai as Deputy Acting Prosecutor General for the period of the acting Prosecutor General’s mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To transmit this decision to the interim Prosecutor General to start the procedures for issuing the appropriate administrative acts (…)”, said the President of the SCP, Dumitru Obad\u0103.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sergiu Brigai has been working in the prosecution system since 2011. In 2018, he worked as a prosecutor in the Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings Section of the Criminal Prosecution and Forensic Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office. Since 2021 he has been acting Deputy Head of the Office of the Prosecutor for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prosecutor Sergiu Brigai, who applied for the position of judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, passed the Vetting Commission’s assessment. The assessment involved detailed verification of his financial and ethical integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the assessment of financial integrity, the review period is 12 years. The Commission verifies the subject’s compliance with the tax and legal regime for declaring assets and personal interests, the manner of acquisition of assets owned or possessed, as well as the expenses related to the maintenance of those assets and the sources of income. Also, any tax irregularities leading to unpaid taxes exceeding five average wages per economy, in the amount set by the Government, are taken into account.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
