Ilan Shor, indicted on 9 counts in the “bank fraud” case, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Court of Appeal on Thursday, April 13, says the Chairwoman of the Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee of the Moldovan Parliament, Olesea Stamate. President Maia Sandu also confirmed this in a Facebook post.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, on April 13, 2023, at 17:55, after two days of judicial debates, the Chisinau Court of Appeals, pronounced the dispositive of the decision in the \u0218or case, which is part of the ,,Bank Fraud” case, whereby Ilan \u0218or was found guilty and was definitively sentenced to 15 years in prison, in a closed penitentiary, with deprivation of the right to hold positions in the banking system for 5 years. According to the decision, Ilan \u0218or will have to pay back more than 5.2 billion lei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chisinau Court of Appeal has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. rejected as untimely the joint appeal of lawyers Calaida and Colenco;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. rejected as unfounded the appeal of lawyers Balan and Ulanov;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. admitted the appeal of the prosecutor and the representative of the Savings Bank (BEM);<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. quashed in part the judgment of the first instance, with a judgment in the manner prescribed for the first instance, whereby:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Ilan Shor was found guilty of committing the offence under Article 190 para. (5) of the Criminal Code (fraud), with the imposition of a sentence of 12 years imprisonment, to be served in a closed prison, with deprivation of the right to hold office in the banking system for 5 years;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ilan Shor was found guilty of the offence referred to in Article 243(2) of the Criminal Code. (3) of the Criminal Code (money laundering), with a sentence of 6 years’ imprisonment, to be served in a closed prison;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Under Article 84 of the Criminal Code, impose a final sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment in a closed prison, with deprivation of the right to hold office in the banking system for a period of five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n


      The term of imprisonment will be calculated from the time of detention, including the period of custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      BEM’s civil action was admitted in its entirety, with the collection of 5,291,708,829 lei from the defendant’s account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Otherwise, the sentence was upheld. The decision may be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In June 2022, ZdG wrote that it has been three years since Ilan Shor, the deputy of the “Shor” political party, investigated in the “bank fraud” case, left Moldova. During this period, \u0218or, who lost his parliamentary immunity for the second time in May 2022, appeared in numerous videos posted on his Facebook page in which he launched several attacks on the ruling party and Moldovan President Maia Sandu. Although he is a member of parliament, Shor did not attend any of the meetings called by parliament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
